Badger licenses technology to China cumene plant
Badger Licensing announced that CEPSA Chemical Shanghai Co., an affiliate of CEPSA Quimica, selected Badger to provide proprietary technology for its 360,000 tpy grassroots cumene plant in Shanghai.
The award includes
technology license, process design and start-up services.
The new cumene plant will be integrated with CEPSA Chemical Shanghai’s phenol plant also being constructed at the same site.
“CEPSA Quimica is one of the largest producers of cumene and phenol in the world,” said Stuart Agler, president of Badger. “This is the third time they have chosen Badger’s proprietary cumene
technology, for a total of over 1 million tons of cumene production. Badger is proud of our long-term relationship with CEPSA Quimica and we are pleased that they have again selected Badger’s technology for their new facility in China.”
Cumene is a precursor to the production of phenol, phenolic resins, bisphenol A, epoxy resins and polycarbonate. Nearly 10 million metric tons of cumene capacity has been licensed by Badger since the
technology was introduced in 1995.
Badger Licensing, headquartered in Boston, is a venture of affiliates of Technip and ExxonMobil Chemical. Badger Licensing is principally engaged in marketing, licensing, and developing technologies for ethylbenzene, styrene monomer, cumene, and bisphenol A.
