Adani breaks ground on Dhamra LNG project

India’s infrastructure company, Adani Group on Sunday broke ground on its Dhamra LNG terminal at the Dhamra Port, Odisha.

The facility with the capacity to handle 5 mtpa of liquefied natural gas is expected to be commissioned by 2020-21, India’s minister of petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan said during the ground-breaking ceremony.

Pradhan noted, that the Dhamra LNG terminal, first in Eastern India will be receiving the chilled fuel from Qatar and the United States, adding that the project will cost at over Rs. 60 billion ($930 million).

In addition to linking Eastern India to the gas infrastructure of the country, the terminal will serve as the supply source for the Jagdishpur-Haldia and Bokaro-Dhamra Pipeline (JHBDPL) project.

Dhamra LNG is a joint venture between Adani Group (50 percent) and the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation and Gail, holding a 39 percent and 11 percent equity respectively.
