BASF begins construction of its $10 billion petrochemical refinery in China
In late November, BASF of Germany announced that construction of its $10 billion integrated complex in Guangdong, China had begun. This project will be the first completely foreign owned chemical complex in China.
This project will produce commodities such as engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane, along with additional supplies to be used in the traditional automotive and electronics industries, as well as for new energy vehicle incorporation in the south China market. Over 30 production units are being planned for the various products envisioned for this complex.
This complex is part of the global BASF Verbund product chain plan and was announced back in July 2018 for this location. The initial phase is due by the end of 2022 with a plan to complete the overall complex by 2030.
