BPCL places polyol plant in Kochi on hold.

According to recent reports, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has placed a planned polyol production plant on hold at the Kochi facilities in Kerala.  The company has been undergoing a privatization process and has ceased progress on this plan until it is settled.

The Kochi polyols addition began initial movement in early 2019 and was being plotted for construction on 170 acres of land next to the Kochi refinery.  Land leveling has been completed, but further construction and technology licensing plans have been immediately for the Rs 11,130 crore project for the foreseeable future.  No restart to this development has been announced as of January 2021.

Any restart of this project’s development is likely tied to consent from post-privatization decisions around eventual disinvestment.  Reportedly, government officials in Kerala have an anti-privatization position and that BPCL should not be proceed with these plans, which likely puts this polyols project in flux at this time.
