BPGIC cancels plans for a multiphase refinery in Fuijairah, UAE in lieu of a smaller modular refinery.

Brooge Petroleum & Gas Investment (BPGIC) recently announced that together with joint partner Sahara Energy that the 250,000 bpd Fujairah refinery would not be moving forward, but that another refinery will proceed instead. This new modular refinery is being developed with a capacity for 25,000 bpd in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

BPGIC and Sahara Energy discontinued its joint development of the larger refinery plan earlier this month due to variances in their expectations for this project.  On February 24, BPGIC entered into a new agreement with Al Brooge International Advisory LLC (BIA) that will see BIA construct a new 25,000 bpd refinery with a focus on low sulfur fuel that will comply with IMO 2020 regulations.  This new refinery is to be placed on operator BPGIC’s phase 1 and Phase 2 land at the company’s Fujairah site. With its modular design, BPGIC hopes to have this refinery operational by the end of this year.
