Dow Plans World’s First Net Zero Ethylene and Derivates Complex

Dow recently announced that is has begun planning the first ever net-zero carbon emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site in regard to scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide emissions.

This new ethylene cracker is to be located on Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan site in Alberta with the intention of more than tripling the site’s current ethylene and polyethylene capacity, while also equipping the existing facilities to a net-zero carbon emission standard. Dow is anticipating this cracker to add approximately 1.8 million metric tons of capacity by way of multiple phases through 2030, and production of 3.2 MMtpy of low to zero carbon emission standard polyethylene and ethylene derivate capacity through additional retrofitting investments to the complex.  This is expected to ultimately be one of the largest projects developed in Alberta in many years.
