Feed gas begins flow to Freeport LNG Train 3 – commercial startup imminent
Engineering, design and construction (EPC) partners McDermott, Chiyoda and Zachry announced recently that the third train on Quintana Island in Freeport, Texas has begun the introduction of feed gas to the 5 MMtpy unit, indicating the project has completed its construction phase.
The three train Freeport LNG project has a production capacity of approximately 15 MMtpy. Train one began last December with Train 2 commencing in January. Freeport LNG has previously announced that actual full startup is expected in May but could come earlier with this completion announcement.
Freeport LNG is also planning a fourth train for this complex, with a final investment decision expected this quarter. This train would be another 5 MMtpy project and is planned for a start up in 2023. With this fourth train under development, the total expected cost for Freeport LNG is approximately $14 billion.
