First biofuel project coming to Paraguay.
Honeywell UOP announced recently that the ECB Group of Brazil has contracted them for use of its UOP Ecofining process intended for a proposed renewable diesel and jet fuel refinery to be built at the Omega Green site in Villeta, Paraguay. This would be the first advanced biofuels project to be constructed in the country.
With UOP’s Ecofining process in place, this biorefinery will convert a feedstock consisting of vegetable oils and animal fats into approximately 20,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel and jet fuel upon completion of the site. The renewable diesel produced at this facility will be chemically identical to traditional diesel usage, and the jet fuel produced can be blended with petroleum-based jet fuels for proper utilization. Omega Green has an estimated project cost of $800 million and is hoping to begin production in 2024.
