Honeywell subsidiary to provide renewable technology for UAE refinery
Using UOP’s Renewable Jet Fuel process technology, Petrixo intends to process approximately 500,000 mt of renewable feedstock per annum into renewable jet fuel and renewable diesel.
Petrixo Oil and Gas CEO Dr. Eid Al Olayyan said, “UOP’s green fuels technologies are proven refining solutions that produce high-quality products compatible with petroleum-based fuels.”
In line with its announcement earlier this year, Petrixo plans to invest US$800mn into building the new Fujairah refinery, which will boast a total capacity of one million metric tons of biofuel per year.
Once completed, the refinery will occupy 460,000 sq m in the Fujairah free zone and the Port of Fujairah and will be the first commercial-scale renewable jet fuel production facility outside of North America.
Veronica May, vice-president and general manager of UOP’s Renewable Energy and Chemicals business, explained, “UOP’s renewable process technologies produce real fuels, rather than fuel additives such as biodiesel, that fit seamlessly into existing fuel chains.”
The renewable fuels that UOP’s green process technology produces is otherwise known as Honeywell Green Jet Fuel and Honeywell Green Diesel.
“The renewable fuels produced by our technology also offer lower greenhouse gas emissions relative to traditional petroleum-based fuels,” added May.
Honeywell Green Jet Fuel, which is a blend of up to 50 per cent with petroleum-based jet fuel, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65-95 per cent compared with petroleum-based fuels, according to Honeywell.
Additionally, Honeywell Green Diesel reportedly offers high energy density, as well as better performance over biodiesel and petroleum-based diesel.
