Ichthys LNG operation’s complex starts up

The Inpex-led Ichthys LNG project has started up its operation’s complex, as the onshore processing plant prepares to transition from construction to operations.

The complex, comprising 20 buildings, makes up the control and support hub for the onshore processing of gas when it is eventually received from the Ichthys field, Inpex said in a brief social media statement.

The buildings are situated nearly two kilometers from the LNG processing plant at Bladin Point, Darwin, and cover approximately 23 hectares.

The Ichthys project is expected to produce 8.9 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of LPG each year, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak, with first LNG production expected by March next year.

The project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
