Jacobs to design new Brazil chlorine dioxide plant

Jacobs Engineering Group was awarded a contract by CMPC Group’s Celulose Riograndense Ltda. for the design and supply of an integrated chlorine dioxide plant for its pulp expansion project in Guaiba, Río Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Officials did not disclose the contract value in Tuesday's announcement. They noted that when completed, the plant is anticipated to produce 60 tpd of chlorine dioxide.

Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is designing and engineering the plant, supplying key equipment and materials including Jacobs’ proprietary Chemetics equipment, and providing technical services for plant erection, operator training, commissioning and testing.

“We are pleased to leverage our experience with many pulp mill clients in Asia to support CMPC on this project," said Jacobs executive vice president Andy Kremer.
"This is our first integrated chlorine dioxide plant supplied within South America, and we look forward to working with CMPC to help them achieve competitive advantage through our integrated process, which offers the lowest-cost method of producing chlorine dioxide available.”

Celulose Riograndense Ltda. is a business division of Empresas CMPC, an integrated forestry group headquartered in Chile, and the fourth-largest pulp supplier in the world.
