Japan to Build $10B Gas Chemical Complex in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Bedymohammadov has signed framework agreements and contracts to build gas refining and chemical plants in Turkmenistan. Total cost of the plants is over $10 billion and they will be built by the Japanese companies in the near future, reported press office of the Turkmenistan government today.
Berdymohammadov has invited Japanese companies to "join the process of industrialization of resources and industrial potential of the country." "Turkmenistan has huge natural gas resources and this country is very important from the geopolitical viewpoint. We would like to provide support to the republic with our technologies and qualified personnel."
By order of Turkmengas state concern the contract for construction of the gas chemical complex to manufacture polyethylene and polypropylene will be built by Toyo Engineering Corporation and the consortium of LG International Corporation - Hyundai Engineering Corp. Ltd companies. The plant manufacturing sulfuric acid will be built on the Turkmenabat chemical plant by Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co Ltd. According to the framework agreements, the plant for refining natural gas into petrol will be built by Kawasaki heavy Industries Ltd, the plant manufacturing sulphate natrium and washing detergent in Garabogaz city will be built by Tsukishima Kikai Co Ltd, the plant manufacturing carbamide and ammonia in Garabogaz will be built by Mitsubishi Corporation and the plant for refining natural gas into liquid fuel will be built by Sojitz Corporation, Chiyoda Corporation, Nippon Steel and Sumkin Engineering Co Ltd.
The intergovernmental agreements on technical cooperation, the cooperation agreement and the credit agreement between the Turkmenistan state foreign economic bank and the Japanese bank of international cooperation have been also signed during the visit.
