Linde wins contract for Borouge's petchem plant

The project scope includes engineering, procurement and construction services for a new Boil Off Gas (BOG) compressor project at the plant. It will also entail a number of tie-ins to the existing facility.

The contract was awarded as part of Borouge’s plans to improve the capabilities of its world-class petrochemical complex, making it more energy efficient.

“We are honoured to have been selected, once again, as the technology-EPC partner of choice to Borouge. This award marks an important milestone in our regional business growth,” said Ali Vezvaei, President & CEO, Linde AG, Engineering - Middle East & North Africa (MENA).

Borouge expanded its petrochemical plant at Ruwais by 2.5mn t/y to a total annual capacity of 4.5mn tonnes in 2014.

The expansion project under the name of Borouge 3 includes an ethane cracker, two polyethylene units, two polypropylene units, and a low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit.

The new ethane cracker, Borouge’s third, will produce 1.5mn tonnes of ethylene per year and is being built by the Linde Group at a contract value of over $1bn.
