Maire Tecnimont wins EPC work for upgrade of Poland’s Gdansk refinery
Maire Tecnimont subsidiary KT – Kinetics
Technology was awarded an EPC contract by Grupa LOTOS related to upgrading the Gdansk
refinery in Poland, officials announced on Wednesday.
The upgrade is being conducted within the framework of the EFRA (Effective
Refining)
project.
Grupa Lotos is one of the largest
refining companies in Poland, engaged in the extraction and processing of crude oil, as well as in the wholesale and retail of refined petroleum products.
The overall contract value is estimated to be €304 million, and the
project completion is expected in 2018.
The contract includes the implementation of a delayed coking unit, a coker naphtha hydrotreating unit, a hydrogen production unit (licensed by KT) together with ancillary units in the premises of the Gdansk
refinery.
The scope of the contract entails the implementation of the best available
technology for produced coke downloading and dewatering, according to company officials. This
technology is regarded as a breakthrough approach to the delayed coking
environmental impact mitigation.
With this achievement, Maire Tecnimont says it is strengthening its position in the
refining business, thanks to its capabilities in improving output efficiency. Ensuring the full technological cycle of crude oil processing is one of the key drivers to meet the growing market for cleaner fuels and ensure higher output of high-margin products, company officials say.
“This award confirms our strong technological orientation in the hydrocarbons value chain, which enables our clients to improve efficiency as well as products quality and mitigate
environmental impact," said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Maire Tecnimont. "Our distinctive capabilities have once again led us to achieve this outstanding result and consolidate a 10-year relationship with such a prominent client.”
