McConnell Dowell wins Tangguh LNG expansion contract

Australian construction company McConnell Dowell has been awarded a job on the BP-operated Tangguh LNG plant expansion project in Indonesia.

The work on the contract awarded by Saipem’s Indonesian unit is set to begin immediately with completion expected in early 2019, McConnell Dowell said in its statement.

The development will involve the construction of a bulk offloading facility, the LNG and condensate loading jetty, pipelines and new wellhead platforms as well as the redevelopment of the existing onshore Tangguh brownfield site.

Onshore works will include an additional natural gas liquefaction train, an onshore receiving facility (ORF), new LNG and condensate loading berth, additional Boil of Gas (BOG) recovery, utilities, flares and other supporting infrastructures.

The final investment decision for the addition of a third liquefaction train at the Tangguh LNG facility has been reached in July last year. Third train will add 3.8 million tons per annum of production capacity to the existing facility, bringing total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa. First production from the third train is expected in 2020.

UK-based energy giant BP operates the project with a total participation interest of 40.22 percent.

Other partners in the Tangguh production sharing contract are MI Berau (16.3%), CNOOC Muturi (13.9%), Nippon Oil Exploration (Berau) (12.23%), KG Berau Petroleum and KG Wiriagar Petroleum Ltd (10%), Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi (7.35%), and Talisman Wiriagar Overseas (3.06%).
