Oman’s Duqm Refinery moves closer to a 2022 startup
The Duqm refinery project which is under construction in the Duqm Special Economic Zone of Oman is moving closer to a 2022 startup date. This ambitious refiner project took a momentous step towards commercial production as the Port of Duqm is receiving nine new storage tanks.
The nine tanks weigh approximately 780 metric tons apiece and are being towed to the Port of Duqm in three separate shipments. With this new equipment in place, the Duqm refinery will be roughly 45% complete. This tank order is part of an EPC package headed up by a joint venture of Petrofac and Samsung Engineering and is believed to be one of the heaviest cargoes ever discharged at the Port of Duqm.
The $7 billion, 230,00 barrel per day Duqm refinery is operated by a joint venture of the Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum international. Commercial startup is on schedule for 2022 and is relied upon as a vital cornerstone of Oman’s growing industrial center.
