OMV restarts work at Tunisian Nawara gas project after blockade ends

VIENNA (Reuters) — Austrian oil and gas group OMV has restarted work at its Nawara natural gas project in southern Tunisia, it said on Tuesday, after blockades had halted the supply of building materials and hundreds of contractors were removed from the site.

"The blockades have ended. The restart of works at the Nawara project can be started," an OMV spokesman said.Protesters who blockaded oil and gas fields in southern Tunisia pressing demands for jobs and a share of the country's energy wealth reached an agreement with the government on June 16 to end a sit-in and allow production to restart.

OMV's Tunisian operations had an output of roughly 8,000 boed until May.

It is expected that this output level can be reached in two to three months after a few weeks of limited production.
