Private refinery in Louisiana expected to restart in February.

Calcasieu Refining of Louisiana recently announced it plans to restart its idled Calcasieu refinery in early February 2021.  Production had been shut in since mid-2020.

This 136,000 barrel per day refinery was originally idled last year due to a double impact of pandemic driven demand drops and from an extremely active hurricane season last year.  Hurricane Laura damaged industrial facilities in the area and water supply to the area was temporarily ceased, which dramatically curtailed initial restart attempts.  Calcasieu Refining Chief Executive Officer Russ Willimon recently confirmed that the plant will indeed restart in the first week of February, as the Lake Charles area has worked to recover and essential repairs have been made.  This restart follows the late 2020 restart of the nearby Phillips 66 refinery, also in the Lake Charles area.
