REG Announces Construction Start for Renewable Diesel Expansion in Louisiana
The Renewable Energy Group (REG) of Iowa recently announced the official start of construction for the company’s renewable diesel expansion project in Geismar, Louisiana. This facility was the very first renewable diesel production facility in the United States, and REG has been working on this expansion since 2020.
This expansion phase will add 250 million gallons per year of renewable diesel production capacity to the original capacity of 90 million gallons per year. REG has estimated the project cost for this expansion to be $950 million with an expectation of achieving production startup in 2024. Once complete, the renewable diesel from this facility will enable the reduction of up to 2.8 million tons annually of carbon dioxide emissions.
