Sempra wins final US approval for Cameron LNG exports
Sempra Energy’s plan to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Louisiana won final US approval, becoming the second such facility to win the agency’s backing.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) voted unanimously Thursday to let Sempra’s Cameron LNG project move forward, after the agency’s staff conducted an environmental review.
The project also has US Energy Department approval. Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass export plant, now under construction in Louisiana, is the only other facility to win the support of both agencies.
The Cameron project, which may cost as much as $10 billion, is scheduled to begin liquefying gas in late 2017 and be fully operational by 2018. The terminal will be designed to export up to 12 million tpy of natural gas.
