Shell signs up for Dawei LNG terminal
Royal Dutch Shell will build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal as part of Myanmar’s massive Dawei port complex development plans.
Shell has signed a joint development agreement with Thai firms Italian-Thai Development and LNG Plus International to build the terminal, which will consist of an LNG receiving and regasification terminal at the much touted Dawei special economic zone.
The LNG will be sold through Myanmar and Thailand.
The much stalled Dawei project is funded by both Myanmar and Thailand and when complete will include box and oil terminals as well as the Shell-led gas facility.
Dawei will provide direct transport links from Bangkok to the Andaman Sea, instead of requiring goods to be shipped through the Strait of Malacca.
