Sonangol & United Shine construction agreement for Cabinda Refinery
Sonangol and United Shine signed a partners' agreement for the construction of a high-conversion oil refinery in the province of Cabinda, Angola. The signing took place in Luanda, during the opening of the Africa Oil and Gas Conference.
United Shine was chosen in Nov 2018 after evalations from a 2017 tender launched by Sonangol for construction of a refinery with a processing capacity of 60,000 bpd for production of d diesel, gasoline, fuel oil and Jet A1.
United Shine consortium will hold a 90% stake in the refinery, with national oil company’s subsidiary Sonangol Refinacion-Sonaref SA to hold the remaining 10%.
Note construction of the Cabinda refinery, as well as construction of refineries in Luanda and Lobito, is part of Sonangol's priorities to reduce reliance on imported fuels. United Shine was also awarded a contract to construct a gasoline unit at the 65,000 bpd Luianda refinery
