Waltersmith’s modular refinery expected to commence production this September in production-starved Nigeria
Independent producer Waltersmith Petroman Oil of Nigeria is set to start production at its 5,000 bpd modular refinery in Nigeria’s Iwo state later this month. This is the first phase of a planned two-phase plan expected to add a total capacity of 30,000 bpd once completed, possibly by 2022. This project is expected to produce gasoline, diesel, LPG, kerosene and jet fuel.
This anticipated startup comes as Nigeria continues to try to revive its struggling refinery industry in various ways. Nigeria has been working to rehabilitate its four existing state-owned refineries that have faltered in their efficiency for many years by 2022, and the privately owned greenfield Dangote refinery due for startup in 2022 with a capacity of 650,000 bpd.
Once complete, Dangote is expected to be the largest single train refinery in the world. Also of note is another privately held BUA group of Lagos that is plotting a 200,000 bpd grassroots refining and petrochemical plant in Akwa Ibom due in 2024.
